Wondering if acupuncture can help with sperm quality? We spoke to acupuncture expert Chantal Nogbou from Leeds, who specialises in fertility.
Is acupuncture a popular treatment for men with fertility issues?
As an acupuncturist I have helped many couples over the past 8 years on their journey to parenthood, it is usually the women who book in but we can help men too with improving their fertility.
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a Chinese Medicine treatment and has been around for thousands of years and it involves the insertion of pins in acupuncture points dotted all over your body. This helps kick-starts your body’s own healing mechanism and help re-balance your mind, body and spirit. There are over 360 acupuncture points all over your body, but during your acupuncture treatment, they might only needle 10-20 points in total. Cool right? You won’t end up looking like a hedgehog, I promise!
How on earth can a few pricks with pins affect your fertility?
When you start Acupuncture it is important you give yourself enough time, after all, it takes 10-12 weeks for sperm to be developed so this is the time we can influence positive changes to the sperm quality.
In short, Acupuncture can improve sperm quality, morphology and motility, but also help to reduce stress levels by regulating cortisol and relieving anxiety and much more. Who would have thought a few small pins could do all that and more!
Tell me about the needles!
They might look a bit long and scary, but the needles are always sterile, fine and single-use, the thickness thinner than a strand of your hair.
Where can I find an acupuncturist?
There is a whole community of amazing acupuncturists out there, and if you are local to West Yorkshire I am here to help.
